Super Smash Bros. is an intense, fast-paced, brawl-style fighting game. Up to four players can be in battle at once, with the option of including computer programmed units.
For those who have not played Smash, it is not an average fighting game. Being knocked off the stage is the same as being knocked out in a normal fighting game. The game can either be played with a time limit and the player with the most kills at the end wins, or stock where each player has the same amount of lives and the one left with lives wins. Smash can be played with either local or online multiplayer matches. Local can be played with anyone that owns the game in your vicinity. Online has the choice of “For Fun” or “For Glory” mode. “For Fun” is just a casual game with wacky items enabled. “For Glory” is a two stock one vs. one match.
Smash has a wide array of characters. It has a total of 49 different characters to choose from, not including any DLC characters being added. This is very impressive considering the processing and computing power of the 3DS. Each character has its own moveset, which can be edited to your liking. New characters include: Palutena, Villager, Rosalina and Luma, Little Mac, Robin, Shulk, Pac-Man, and the Mii Fighters. The only DLC character announced so far is Mewtwo. He is obtained by purchasing the version of Smash on the 3DS and on the Wii U. There may be more DLC characters announced in the future, so be on the look out for that.
The character people seemed to be most excited for was Little Mac. Little Mac comes from the Punch Out series and is a champion boxer. Little Mac has a special meter that builds up and when hit does a massive amount of damage and instantly kills when at a certain health. Little Mac revolves around his ground fighting because does minimal damage when in the air.
Super Smash Bros. 4 has huge tournaments year round and even has a part in the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, EVO. Super Smash Bros. Melee is the usually the game featured in the tournaments. This newest installment will most likely not be featured in big tournaments because Melee is already a staple, but it will be featured in some tournaments. The total amount of earnings made from Smash tournaments is $194,169.96 coming from 53 total tournaments.
There are not many differences between the version of this game on the Wii U and the 3DS. The only major differences are the addition of eight player battles on the Wii U version. This was recently announced and has fans of the franchise very excited. This is the only major difference that has been announced for the game. There are some differences that have to do with the computing power of the two consoles. The Wii U has more power because it is a console and the 3DS is a handheld system.
Smash is one of the most chaotic and crazy fighting games in the world. The combination of a solid combat system and hectic pacing are what makes Smash unique and fun. The variety of fighting styles and game modes keep the game fun and different each time.
