Going after their GOOAALS
December 18, 2014
The boy’s soccer team pre-season games are very tensely lined up. They will be/ are playing a lot of division one and two schools although they are supposed to be division four. The boys think they will lose some pre-season games, but will be okay during season.
“They need to be
working a lot more
on position plays.”
The boys lost their first game on December 11th against Pioneer High School. “They need to be working a lot more on position plays. It’s the reason why we have been los- ing all games,” Coach Gutierrez says.
Ernesto Cueva and Joseph Mendoza are the only freshmen on varsity. Cueva played both halves during their first game. Cueva plays sweeper and middle field. Joseph Men- doza also plays middle field. Mendoza has been playing soccer since a young age and Gutierrez will work with him to make him succeed. Coach Gutierrez believes that Cueva could exceed.
The team’s foot work is good, the players can play. It’s an eleven man team and their techniques are that they can shoot and most of the time it’s technical. That is why there are no captains yet, after the next three or four games.
Coach Gutierrez says, “The players are doing really good and are responding, not giving up, constantly coming to practice are going to get better and knowing what to do.”
Coach Gutierrez feels good and knows that this new team is young, excellent, and energetic. The boys are hoping for a win against Gladstone at home. The team’s next home game is on December 18.
