Bassett Wrestling

#BassettWrestling are the top dogs in the Miramonte League. The undefeated wrestling team was crowned kings and queens of the Miramonte League.
The team showcased their talent by laying it all out on the mat on Senior Night when they earned the title of being undefeated league champs.
Even though it seems nerve-racking, Ricardo Albavera (senior) stated, “I’m not nervous because Coach Matt taught us to always leave it all on the mat and that’s what I’m gonna do. Plus, hard work beats talent when your talent is working hard.”
Senior, Valerie Clark qualified for CIF finals in Eastvale, but unfortunately lost during her CIF Masters round.  League Champions Moises Aguilera, Levi Quiroz, Antonio Alvarado, Mariano Castellanos, Angel Juarez, Kevin Meza, Ricardo Albavera, Martir Arguita, Andres Bosch, Kevin Ramirez, and Miguel Bravo all qualified for CIF in Temecula earlier this month.
Bassett came home with two winning league MVP’s: Antonio Alvarado with middleweight player of the year MVP and Ricardo Albavera with upperweight player of the year MVP.
Bassett Wrestling represented Bassett proudly and the results from Temecula were great.
All boys won first day CIF and moved on to the second day. Tony Alvarado was the only wrestler to place seventh in CIF.
Alvarado won against a Monrovia wrestler who locked consistently. Alvarado using several throws eventually concussed his opponent. Fighting a medical end to the match, Monrovia continued but Alvarado persisted for the pin.
With a dry spell since freshman year and the second time ever that Bassett wrestling has won league championships, it is a huge feat for this 14 man team. While Albavera and Alvarado will be graduating, the team expects to continue strong.
