Coach Long Story

Coach Chris Long’s journey as Olympian Football coach  has come to a end only lasting two seasons with the program.
When he took over the program, in the summer of 2017, he wanted to build a winning program, but ended up with a 1-9 season in his first stitch as head coach.
Previous Coach Spathias left with several players looking to keep him as head coach. With players signing a petition to keep Spathias that they gave to   Assistant Principal, Lujan, students were told a district decision to go in another direction was made.
The following season left Long filling in key positions all across the field especially at QB which was controversial throughout the season causing a 2- 8 season with many highs and lows.
This past offseason was very controversial because “ Coach Long and Bassett Unified School District went their separate ways,” said Assistant Principal of Athletics Ms Arin McDonald.
This past season the football program is coming off a season where they didn’t have as many wins as they would have like due to the lack of key players leaving in the 2016-2017 season.
With plenty of time to think about what type of head coach the administration at Bassett high School is going to choose to lead the program to victory, the field is open to fill the position.
Since Long was also working as Athletic Director, the position had to be filled and Mr. Gutierrez, PE teacher filled in as director. With substitutes filling in for Gutierrez, sports are back on track and the search for a varsity coach begins.
Glendora and Monrovia are also looking for a coach meaning there could be some musical chairs expected amongst San Gabriel Valley schools.
