The Olympian baseball team has a current league standing of fourth place with a 6-10 record.
They did not qualify for CIF due to the losing to the top three schools in the league.
The program ended the season on a high note with a victory against Ganesha. The score was 7-1.
Captain, David Garcia (12) threw with zero earned runs, two walks, and nine strikeouts, leading the team in hits was Jared Covarrubias (11) with two hits in four at bats with a one run scored and an RBI single and Adrian Sanchez (10) with two hits in four at bats with a run scored, and an RBI double.
The baseball team has the youngest head coach in program’s history at the of twenty years old. Cody Stewart was made a statement in his first season of head coach.
He has double the wins from this season from the last three seasons with two different coaches at the helm and wishes he could in use this season as a stepping stone for the future seasons to come.
“I was happy to coach these group of guys in my first year of being a head coach, all thanks to the seniors for learning the way and setting the bar so high for the future seasons to come,“ said coach Cody Stewart.
“The way season turned out wasn’t the way I expected to be because of our laziness throughout the season,” said captain David Garcia (12).
The boys had the challenges of adapting to a new coach again in the past three seasons, but that didn’t get in the way because as they got used to another coach at helm. They started improving as a team and towards the end it really showed in their defensive purposes of the game.
Hitting was a big struggle for the team this season but, the program was able to overcome this problem as shown in their new victories.
The future program’s to come seems positive with Cody Stewart because of his young ambition and the team’s success this season.
On a positive note, infielder/pitcher Daniel Torrero (12) and David Garcia (12) received 1st Team All Miramonte League and will be representing Bassett at the San Gabriel Valley All Star Game.
Jarred Covarrubias (11) received 2nd Team All Miramonte League and Adrian Sanchez (10) also received 2nd Team all Miramonte League for outstanding play throughout the season.
