Standing at 2-1 in the Miramonte League after statement wins against Garey High School and La Puente, the football team face the Pomona Red Devils at Bassett High School in the final game of the season. They are currently tied for second place in the Miramonte League standings.

Friday’s homecoming victory proved that this Bassett team is for real. Senior Quarterback Antonio Alvarez finished with an impressive 192 yards passing and 23 yards rushing. Senior Running back Anthony Barrios led the team in rushing yards with 68 rushing yards. Senior Wide Receiver Jared Covarrubias led the team in receiving yards with three catches for 84 yards. The Offense was productive to say the least.

The saying, “defense wins games” was proven right as the Basset Olympians came out the game with three interceptions, two sacks, and thirty solo tackles. The Olympians held to Vikings to thirteen total points, including six points from an opening drive touchdown. This defense put out a dominant performance against the Vikings.

Late Fourth-Quarter heroics won the game for the Olympians. After a go-ahead touchdown from Senior Quarterback Antonio Alvarez, and nine seconds of prevent defense, the Olympians came out of La Puente with a win. The crowd was certainly an x-factor in the game as it seemed like a home game at La Puente High School.

Overall, the Bassett Olympians are having an exciting regular season. They are currently 3-6 in the season (including preseason) and 2-1 in the Miramonte League. One of the reasons why the season record is low is because the Olympians played challenging opponents in the preseason. With a Thursday victory over La Puente, they are tied for second in the Miramonte League.
