Learning From A Distance
May 18, 2020
Waking up and going to school is completely different from getting up to open your laptop to have a video call from your teachers. For many people, this is very new to them because our whole life we have been going to school and learning in person. It is difficult to learn new things online because you don’t get the same education. Personally, I would rather go to school to learn than learn from a computer screen. Not only do you not have the same amount of interaction with people, but if you get stuck, it may be hard to understand what it is your trying to learn.
Staring at a screen from hours on end can get annoying. Before this whole corona virus situation started, students would go to school and be able to interact with their friends and be able to have a better learning experience in the classroom. However, although teachers may be trying their hardest to give their students that same experience, it’s just not the same.
Learning from home also can be very distracting. I get distracted from everything. Since everyone in my house is home now all the time, that can also be distracting because there is a lot of noise. When you’re at school, you can’t just get up and leave, but being at home is way easier to just stop what you’re doing and use your phone. When learning at home, you must have a lot of self-discipline and be responsible in order to finish everything on time. When you are at home it makes it seem like we are on vacation and don’t have to worry about anything, but that is not the case when having to do school at home.
Also, needing to download certain apps and learning how to maneuver through them can be challenging. It can be difficult getting used to all the apps and websites that we must do our assignments on. Not only do we have to do this, but we have to understand what the assignments are over a computer screen and sometimes having to know what the teacher is trying to tell us gets confusing because they are not telling us verbally. However, once you get the hang of it, it’ll be way easier to complete your assignments and do exactly what your teachers expect from you.
Since this is all very new for students that have been going to school for their whole life, online learning is challenging, but with time, we will get better. Being away from your friends and not being able to see them on a daily basis is also challenging.
